Now that the question of a new Academy school in Strood -- to replace and add to what has already been achieved at Chapter and Temple Schools in Strood -- has been settled (yesterday evening), it is perhaps time to look back at how we got here. I shall not go into detail, but some of that is contained within my own writings on the matter on my own 'blog:
What was vitally important throughout this whole exercise is that the needs of the young folk who will go this academy are paramount -- not personal or party politics. This was urged by the Governor Representative on the Children's Scrutiny Committee, Mrs Pat Wozencroft, at an earlier meeting, and rightly too. Last night, Councillor Jane Etheridge (yes, the very same!) reinforced this, speaking as the ward councillor for where the school and exposed how particular (Labour) Councillors had exploited the issue for their own ends, and even then were trying to delay and derail this project.
One message that I keep reading on this website, and hearing both publicly and privately, is "Well done, Jane!", and I have no hesitation in echoing that sentiment, after last night.
