Medway Council Tax

Is it just me or anyone else having trouble understanding the way Medway Council runs their council tax payment system. I am upto date with my payment, I know because I spoke to someone in September as there was a misunderstanding then I paid October give or take two to three days late and my next payment due on 24 Nov. But guess what no letters or anything for the past two months then suddenly today I get a summons to go to court in December with a £60 excess....... Anyone knows what's going on…

Hi Harish, you appear to be a patriot in despair, if I may say so, and it was exactly the situation I found myself in when, unlike those of my colleagues who felt powerless and perhaps disinclined to become roused into action, I decided to do something about it.

My particular background is in medicine, but doctoring offers a wonderful 'kaleidoscopic' view of life and society. Politics seemed and indeed became a natural extension of my vocation and skills.

There is so much to politics, so although healthcare led me to politics, once inside its realm, I discovered there are infinite ways to champion the underprivileged, and the multitude of wrongs to be righted. As Gandhi said, "you must be the change you wish to see in the world."

Obviously, I am passionate about health and all the associated areas such as employment and the economy, for no solution to any one problem can be made in isolation or is it possible to have a durable solution without attending to allied problems.

It doesn't matter where we are in this country; the problems are similar and vary only by degrees. I hope you will find satisfaction in seeking resolution to your problems, and that we could all join in the common cause of achieving a better society for everyone.

Finally, if you would let me guess and apply my knowledge correctly, I would have started with Kemcho and ended with Aavjo!

Thank you Mr Ward for your response.

As I don't know a lot about politics but a strong believer in people and family values, perhaps you could help me. What would be your suggestion for me to start helping out my community to start with. There are too much suffering going on in this world, perhaps if we all do a little, soon enough, everyone will catch on. The only way I see forward is to work towards being part of the group that makes changes and that would be the government as a whole.

Thank you

Thanks for your comments.

I agree about the party name not mattering in itself -- indeed, I often say exactly the same thing. Indeed, I still find it strange that I felt compelled to switch parties and even stand for election myself (something I have never thought of doing before). In my comment to you, I was just trying to find a way to break the ice, as they say :-)

It was for HOPE that I was eventually persuaded to join the party and to stand, largely as the result of a local campaign that I managed when it blew up while I was the secretary of our local Residents Association. I found out a lot of things that were not generally public knowledge (or, at least, not widely accepted by the public) and have continued to do so during this past three-quarters of a decade on Medway Council.

Thus I too started to be able to do something about a whole range of issues, as you also wish to do.

Our journeys might -- or might not -- follow similar paths in our quests to make a difference, but every journey begins with the first step. Of course, we must not then forget to take the next step, and the one after, and... well, it never ends!

As Pete Tyler (Rose's dad in Doctor Who) would say "You can trust me on this!"

Welcome to Strood Conservatives! I think you might be a bit like me, as I was once a LibDem(!) There's not a lot of people know that...
